New Addition at Briar Hill
In late May, Ohman Family Communities began demolition and preparation for a 23,000 sq. ft., 24 private-room post-acute rehab wing to be added to the existing
Briar Hill Health Care facility in Middlefield.
The new wing will have a separate entrance with a focus to modernize the rehab space for an ever-increasing rehab population.
Currently, physical, occupational, speech and respiratory therapy rehabilitation is provided. In 2017, BHHCR added a dialysis den for inpatient dialysis. The therapy gym will triple the size of the current gym and will provide outpatient therapy for the community.
The addition will also feature a new dining room, coffee shop, library, living room and spa.
All patient rooms will be private with attached private showers. The project for the addition will take approximately 18 months.
In addition to the rehab wing, BHHCR will renovate its existing facility creating private resident rooms, expanding the kitchen, creating an enclosed courtyard accessible from several points of the building. They will also update interior décor on the first and second floor. The total project will take approximately 24 months.
BHHCR is currently an 85-bed skilled nursing/rehab facility, with 45 assisted living units and will offer 96 skilled-nursing-facility beds following the project completion.
Briar Hill is one of three rehab facilities owned and managed by Ohman Family Communities who have been a part of Geauga County serving primarily the senior population for more than 54 years. This project is one of many that they will undertake to serve the growing senior population.
One of their core values is Striving for Excellence. They believe this includes not only the internal day-to-day management, but also the physical building as well.
Ohman Family Communities is in the early stages of building an independent living community near the Briar Hill campus as well. Visit BriarHillHealthCare.

On April 7, Big Bill’s Burgers in Middlefield celebrated with a Grand Opening and Ribbon Cutting!Since January, Dedria Kot, family members and their team have been preparing great food featuring the biggest ‘best’ burgers in town. The new eatery is located just north of the light on Route 608, across from the fire station. After working hard to smooth out the kinks, update the facilities and develop premier customer service habits, they have created an atmosphere that’s comfortable and inviting. The Kots are Windham, Ohio natives and currently operate Dee’s Hometown Diner located there.
When Dedria began preparing some of her grandmother’s, Lucille Moore, home-made recipes (which turned out to be a big hit) some Middlefield friends told them they would love to have the same menu and the same great food in their home town. The Kots began looking for their next adventure and founded Big Bill’s Burgers. After a very long journey and a lot of help from many local contractors, they are now open for business.
Big Bill’s menu is complete. Starting with breakfast, which is served all day, enjoy omelets, pancakes or biscuits and gravy, and later, if a burger isn’t what you crave, try baskets, wraps or salads. For dinner other dishes include fish dinners or liver and onions.
The Kots enjoy serving people, great tasting food at an affordable price and the joy of just hearing how good everything is. “It makes it all worthwhile,” says Dee. “Even though we don’t have much spare time with the operations of two restaurants.” The Kots enjoy going out eat at different places, as well, just to see what’s new.
Coming soon, they will offer buckets of their famous specially-seasoned chicken, and delivery will also be a future option.
So, plan to attend and enjoy on April 7 at 14895 N. State Road, Middlefield (44062). Hours are currently, Monday – Thursday
