The Water Treatment Plant is located north of town, as is the aquifer that the Village water is pumped from.  This plant was constructed in 2008 to meet all current EPA standards. This is a state-of-the-art facility. This new facility is able to treat up to 2 million gallons of water per day. Our supply is adequate to meet the needs of any industry heavily dependent on water.

The Village of Middlefield’s Wastewater Treatment Facility originally consisted of two mixing lagoons, one settling lagoon and an Imhoff tank for treatment. The plant was recently upgraded and expanded to meet the needs of the growing Village and tougher EPA standards. The construction cost $10.8 million and increased capability of treating an average daily flow of 1.5 million gallons, with a peak flow of 3 million gallons.

The current plant is a state-of-the-art design that effectively treats residential, commercial and industrial customers. The current utilization of the plant is approximately 66%. The Middlefield Wastewater Treatment Plant includes three processing buildings, an operations building and covers 20 acres of land. The plant is run and maintained by two, licensed operators working one eight-hour shift, monitored 7 days a week. The plant processed approximately 252 million gallons of water in 2018. It also includes fire, intruder and equipment alarms that are monitored 24 hours a day. Click here to see more photos of the WWTP.
